Lesson 4: The Spiritual Life of Flowers

Meeting Your Guardian Angel Meditation

The word “Angel” is derived from the Greek word “Angelos”, which means Messenger.  Angels are found in most cultures and religions dating back thousands of years. In Assyrian, the word “Kabiru” means “winged human form” and these Angels were the guardians of ancient Babylonia and Sumeria; “Kabiru” later developed into the word “Cherub”. In Persia and India, people were connecting with “Devas”, or the “the shining ones”, who were closely related to the fairy elements of earth, fire, air, and water.

In this guided meditation, from Fragrant Heart, you'll take a walk along a rose-covered path, to a temple where you meet your guardian angel. Listen here.

Lesson: The Spiritual Side of Flowers

The flower is the reproductive structure of a plant. The flower is the most spiritually evolved and is the highest fulfillment of the plant's life purpose.

The main parts of the flower includes the:

  • Calyx and Sepals, often green, are located where the flower stem and head meet protect the flower bud until it is ready to bloom. It represents the physical/etheric subtle body.

  • Corolla is made up of the flower petals, typically brightly colored and often scented. It represents the emotional subtle body.

  • Stamen, the male reproductive part of a flower includes the filaments and anthers and are long fibers that grow in the centre of the flower and produce pollen. It represents the mental subtle body.

  • Pistil, the female reproductive part, includes the stigma, style, ovary, and ovule. The ovary is located at the bottom of the style, which is a long tube and on top of the style is the stigma. The ovary can contain one or more ovule, which can contain an egg that can develop into a seed. It represents the spiritual subtle body and the ovary represents the Soul.

It is important to recognize that flowers are either male, female, or hermaphrodite, which means that they are able to self-pollinate.

Identifying the Physical Structure and Color of Your Flower

Now, it’s time to retrieve your Flower Guide and to begin to examine its physical structure and the color. In this activity, you will make a sketch of your flower and then label it parts and color it in. You don't need to be a botanist or artist for this activity, just have fun! If you don't have the actual flower, you can research this on the internet or at the library.

You will need:

  • Your Flower Guide (or a photograph or image of the flower)

  • 1 piece of white paper

  • Pencil

  • Colored pencils, markers or crayons

When you are ready, using a pencil, sketch an outline of the flower onto the piece of paper. Then, taking your time, locate the parts of the flower identified earlier in this lesson. Lastly. color in your flower.

In this e-How article learn how to label the parts of a flower easily by examining the flower closely. Most of us glance at a flower and see it as one whole. We do not see the many parts that make up the flower. Once you have taken the time to examine it closely, the many small parts that make up the reproductive organs of the plant in the flower become very easy to identify in most species. Finding and labeling flower parts need no expertise when using the guide below to assist you. click here.

In future lessons, you will return to this information to further examine the healing qualities of these colors.

Taking the Lesson Further: The Rose Boundary Tool

You can get a sense of your own energy field by holding your arm straight out in front of you, bending your wrist until the palm of your hand is facing you. Your hand is now at the perimeter of your aura. Turn yourself in a circle, holding your hand out in this way and you will easily see and define the space that is your personal energy field.

This week experiment using the Rose Boundary Tool to begin to sense your energy field.

  1. Sit in a straight-back chair with your feet flat on the floor and your eyes closed. Sit quietly for a few minutes, breathing deeply in and out of your strong and radiant heart grounding yourself and your personal space.

  2.  Visualize and intend that you have six (6) twelve-inch stemmed rose (any color) in your hands. Place each of the roses about 12 inches away from your physical body above and below you, in front and behind of you and on your left and rights sides.

  3. Intend that the roses stay in these locations until the end of the day (at bedtime) or until the time you consciously dissolve them allowing all energetic debris to run through the grounding rose down into the earth.

  4. When the releasing is complete, infuse yourself and your personal space with golden energy.

This meditation follows the "Meeting Your Guardian Angel" meditation. If you haven't done this meditation, connect with your guardian angel and then come back to this one. After you have connected with your guardian angel, listen to "Healing with the Angels" meditation from Fragrant Heart. Listen here.

Make friends with the angels, who though invisible are always with you.

Often invoke them, constantly praise them, and make good use of their help and assistance in all your temporal and spiritual affairs.
