Strategy
Each Type has a Strategy—the best way to make decisions and reduce resistance. Following your Strategy helps you align with your purpose and make choices that feel right increasing your chances of fulfilling your life purpose and experiencing events and circumstances that help you accomplish this on your path. Not following the Strategy for your Type can create further roadblocks and slow your progress toward fulfilling your life’s goals.
How Strategy Works in Practice:

Initiators (Manifestors): Before making a move or decision, inform those who will be impacted. This isn’t asking permission—it’s simply giving others a heads-up. This prevents resistance and maintains peace.

Alchemists/Time Benders (Generators & Manifesting Generators): Wait for something to respond to—a question, an opportunity, a person, a situation. Then listen to your sacral response (a gut yes/no). Don’t initiate or force things to happen.

Orchestrators (Projectors): Wait to be recognized and invited, especially for major life decisions (career, relationships, relocations). In day-to-day situations, wait to be acknowledged before sharing your insights.

Calibrators (Reflectors): Wait a full lunar cycle (28 days) before making major decisions. Use this time to sample how you feel about the decision in different emotional states and environments.
Following your Strategy doesn’t mean being passive. It means engaging with life in the way that works best for your energetic design, allowing the right opportunities to come to you rather than forcing doors open.
Authority is your personal decision-making style – the way you’re uniquely designed to make choices that align with your authentic self directing you toward your best life.

Creative/Emotional/Solar Plexus Authority - When you have emotional authority in your chart, you still use your strategy, but you need to wait until it feels right. Observe your emotional waves over time before making decisions.

Evolutionary/Sacral Authority - Your Sacral response in the moment is the correct authority for you at any given point in time. Pay attention to your gut reactions. Does something make you feel energized (yes) or drained (no)?

Actualizing/Splenic Authority - Your Sacral response in the moment is the correct authority for you at any given point in time. Trust your immediate instincts about safety and well-being.

Resource/Ego (Heart) - Ego authority requires you to check in with yourself to see if you need some downtime before you leap into the next commitment.

Orchestrated/Self / G Projected Authority - Self-projected authority means that you have to “see” your decisions reflected or projected through others to get clarity. Focus on your sense of direction and identity.

Lunar/Reflector Authority - During the Lunar Cycle, the change in energy will allow the Reflector to sample energy from other authorities, and only then can they come to the right decision for them. Ttrack how you feel about decisions over a 28-day lunar cycle.

Mental Authority (also called Environmental Authority or Outer Authority) operates fundamentally differently from other decision-making authorities in Human Design. While other authorities provide internal signals—emotional clarity, gut feelings, intuitive hits, or a sense of personal truth—Mental Authority works through external interaction and verbalization.
Step 2:
Understand How Your Energy Flows
Focus Areas: Human Design Centers & Definition
Familiarize yourself with your defined and undefined Centers and how they interconnect (your ‘Definition’).
Defined Centers: The centers that are colored in are where you possess consistent energy and influence over others. They often represent your reliable strengths. it’s the energy you radiate out into the world, consistent and truthful all the time. It operates the same way both energetically and thematically.
Undefined or Open Centers: The white centers are where you are more flexible but also more susceptible to external influences and your environment. It’s in these open Centers that we have the potential to experience great wisdom but also pain and confusion. Not only do we absorb energies in our open Centers, but we also amplify them. Because we feel these energies so profoundly and intensely, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
Definition: Determine whether all your Defined Centers are interconnected or if there are separate parts operating independently. Assess if you process things solo or benefit from external input to connect the dots in your thoughts and feelings.

Single Definition - all the defined centers connected in a continuous circuit, creating a unified team of energy communication. This cohesion allows for rapid information processing, as each energy center has a consistent and seamless way of communication.

Split Definition - a break in the connections between your energy Centers. This break results in two energy teams communicating with you. Individuals with split definition often experience a sense of feeling that something is missing, due to the lack of a continuous energy flow between all their centers. It’s important to emphasize that split definitions are whole and complete individuals on their own. However, they may be drawn to those who possess gates that, if integrated, would create a single definition.

Triple Split Definition - a triple break in the connections between your energy Centers. Triple splits thrive in diverse social environments that require interaction with various kinds of people. Similar to split definitions, triple splits are drawn to individuals who can complete their chart. However, due to the multiple points in their chart where energy centers lack connection, they seek different energies to form a comprehensive circuit.

Quadruple Split Definition - a triple break in the connections between your energy Centers. individuals with quadruple splits need solitude to allow each center to express itself and synchronize with the others. Their role isn’t to be heavily influenced by external energy but rather to let the wisdom of their centers unfold over time.

No Definition - none of your energy centers are defined. This unique configuration is exclusive to Reflectors.

Your Profile describes your major life themes.
It has two numbers:

Circuits
There are three main circuits and several sub-circuits.

Knowing / Gnostic - holds a deep all-knowing truth based on universal truth
Centering / Calibration - self-love and individuality

Tribal / Sustainability - you are here for the people of the world
Defense / Nurture - intense energy that contains: the creation of resources, intense logic and reason, war and peace, education, and procreation.
Ego / Economic - energy for resources, such as business, marriage, and management

Collective / Synergy - you support the creation of infrastructure for the organization of institutions like schools and Government as well as sharing the capacity of the human experience
Logic / Pattern - consistency, duplication, and order
Sensing / Miracle - telling stories from the past and incorporating new experiences into the bigger story of humanity.
Each of your activated gates is associated with a specific planet. The planet determines the life theme or area where that gate’s energy will manifest. For example, your Sun gates relate to your outer expression and life purpose, while your Mercury gates influence your communication style.
Chiron – Your Spiritual Challenge
Chiron symbolizes recurring life themes bringing both challenge and healing gifts.
The position that Chiron holds in your chart, whatever archetypes or Gates your Chiron is lighting up in your chart is going to tell you a lot about what you’re going to wrestle with every time you go through a growth cycle or a maturing cycle.
As you wrestle with it and you hit maturity with it around 50, it becomes part of, from your mature perspective, what you’re here to give back to the world what you’re here to teach the world.

Focus Areas: Gates, Channels, and Planets
This is where you uncover the intricate details—your strengths, weaknesses, habits, and tendencies.
Gates are 64 specific energy points each representing a distinct aspect of human consciousness, personality traits, and potential life experiences.
Gates are located at the entry and exit points of the nine energy centers and can be defined (consistently expressed) or undefined (open to external influence).
Defined gates are colored in and represent consistent, reliable aspects of your personality that you can access at any time.
Undefined or open gates are not colored in and represent areas where you’re more open to outside influence. You experience these energies inconsistently, depending on your environment and the people around you. Undefined gates are opportunities for wisdom and learning rather than consistent expression.
Hanging gate is activated (colored in) on one end, but doesn’t form a complete channel because the gate on the other end isn’t activated. Hanging gates hold potential for completion when you connect with someone who has the complementary gate defined. These gates can create a pull to find others who “complete” the channel, and they represent areas of learning and growth through relationships.
Conscious gates (shown in black or burgundy on your chart) are determined by the planetary positions at the exact moment of your birth. These represent traits you readily recognize in yourself and express knowingly.
Unconscious gates (shown in red or gold) are determined by planetary positions 88 days before your birth and represent traits that operate below your awareness. Others often see these unconscious traits in you more clearly than you see them in yourself.
Channels
When two defined gates connect by a channel, the channel creates an energetic connection between the two gates. This creates a defined channel and displays energetic themes that you consistently experience in your life.
There are 36 different channels, each with a specific meaning and significance.
Lines that connect two Centers and are a combination of white, red, black, or checkered are known as Channels.
When a channel is complete, it creates a consistent flow of energy between two centers and represents a specific theme or gift in your life. You can have individual gates defined without having a complete channel.
