Bloom Where You Are Planted Course

Getting Started

Floral Arrangement 1

There is a language, little known,

Lovers claim it as their own.

Its symbols smile upon the land,

Wrought by nature's wondrous hand;

And in their silent beauty speak,

Of life and joy, to those who seek

For Love Divine and sunny hours In the language of the flowers.

The Language of Flowers, London, 1875

Flower Psychometry, also known as ‘flowermancy’ is the art of reading flowers. It has been used by healers, priestesses, and shamans to draw inspiration and insight from flowers. During the Victorian age, an elaborate language based on flower symbolism was developed and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, the wife of England's ambassador to Turkey, is recognized with bringing the language of flowers or "floriography" to England. In 1819, "Le Language des Fleurs", written by Charlotte de la Tour, was the first book to compile the symbolism of flowers into a single source.

The Language of Plants - The Signature of Plants

Color is one of the easiest ways to read a plant.

  • The color of the flower can correspond to the chakra system.

  • Marks, discolorations or breakages on the stem, branches, leaves or flowers can indicate important changes in timing, events or personality.

Shape or Physical Form including roots, petals, leaves, and stems are indicators of the flow of energy and life path direction and opportunities.

  • Roots represent the beginning of the life path and symbolize life paths or directions.

  • Flower shape and the direction of the flower’s stamen and pistil share information about the flow of energy.

  • Number of petals and leaves represent motivation and drive.

  • Leaves represent opportunities in life and where they are on the stem can indicate the phase of life in which they occur.

  • Leaves and smaller separate flowers branching off of the main stem represent diversions in life or distraction that may influence future events.

  • Stems that are slightly bendy could represent unexpected opportunities if after the bend the stalk goes upwards or set-backs if after the bend the stalk goes downwards.

Texture including the stem, thorns, and hairs are indicators of a plant’s personality and health-supporting capacity.

  • Smooth stem symbolizes calmness, patience and understanding and conversely, the need to learn how to trust and to feel the growth of inner strength.

  • Stems that are bumpy or change in texture may reveal a new chapter or story to tell.

  • Weak stems can indicate a sensitivity or fragility and strong stems can indicate an assertiveness or agression.

Scent, aromatic volatile oils, are produced by most plants as a means of protection and pollination and are internalized through receptors in our nasal passages having a direct effect on our bodies via the olfactory bulb in the brain. The scent of the flower represents its essence or qualities.

Habitat or Location is where the plant lives and grows and shows a great deal about their relationship to that region. Garden allies, such as bees, birds, and insects, can teach about life and relationships.

Take This Lesson Further

Take each lesson to heart as you create a magical space within and around you. This week contemplate the following questions and record your thoughts and insights in your journal and set a healing intention for this course.

  • What is the deepest intention you have for yourself in this course?

  • What does "embrace, inspire, and empower your soul" mean to you?

  • In what ways do you want to "embrace, inspire, and empower your soul"?

Please consider sharing something about yourself and your healing intention with the class.

Plants have long been primary teachers for those who travel deep into the heart of the world, for those who seek the soul teaching that only the wild can bring.
