Healing with Flowers Course

Lesson 10: Bloom Where You Are Planted

Flower

Within each of us is fertile soil. Like the earth itself, it is connected to a divine source, a higher power. It is the energy of love. Within different traditions, it is also called  the Soul, wisdom, Sophia, the Divine Father/Mother/God, Creator, the sacred Tao, and eternal light. Your inner garden is the place in which your unique talents and gifts grow. It's the soil that supports your passions, your greatest desires, your capacity for compassion and love.

Debra Landwehr and Diane Glass

Getting Started: Haipule

Serge Kahili King writes that the word “haipule’ is based on the word hai, which means to offer and pule, which means prayer, blessing, spell. That is, haipule is a term relating to a process for making good things happen.

The word, Haipule, can be broken down further and is the basis for the process of Huna. The four steps are:

  1. Ha, meaning "life, breath, spirit."Breathe deeply and get emotionally excited while thinking about what you want, or at least feel as positive and happy as you can. When you lose your focus, breathe deeply to get back into the present and start over.

  2. I, meaning "to speak." Speak the words that describe what you want, aloud or silently. When you find yourself speaking negative words related to what you want, stop, breathe, and go back to saying what you want instead.

  3. Pu, meaning "to issue forth, to appear like smoke." This is a poetic description of imagination. Imagine what you want in as much sensory detail as you can. When you find yourself imagining what you don't want, stop, breathe, and imagine what you want again.

  4. Le, a short form of lele meaning, basically, "to move."Whenever you are thinking or speaking about what you want, assume a positive posture and move in confident ways. When you find yourself feeling depressed, helpless or disillusioned in relation to what you want, stop, take a deep breath, and change your posture or the way you move into a more positive and confident mode.

Lesson: Your Healing Garden

In this lesson, you will look over your garden and see what last bit of tending is needed to nurture the beautiful blooms of today and to prepare the seed for the future.

Now, retrieve your journal and complete the following sentences.

  • The central theme of my healing situation (flower central theme) is...

  • The energetic theme of my situation (flower shape) is...

  • My current situation (flower habitat) is...

  • What's needs to be created, rebalanced or released in my life (flower color) is...

  • What qualities (number of flower petals) do I want to cultivate in my life...

  • What are my strengths (flower scent)...

  • What supports (pollinators) are available to me...

How is your garden growing?

  1. What needs to be weeded (thought, belief, fear) out in order for your garden to grow and flourish?

  2. How has this weed (thought, belief, fear) served you? What would be different if you held a different, more empowering, belief. Are you willing to accept a different belief?

  3. What do you need to align with nature to find and create spaciousness for healing, possibilities and miracles? For example, do you need to tend the

  •  earth through grounding, walking, and connecting with nature

  • air through meditation, mindfulness, affirmations, connection to the spirit guides

  • water through self love and introspection

  • fire through creativity and movement

To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves.

Mohandas K Gandhi

Did you manifest your healing intention? If not, imagine what kind of flower holds the power to manifest your healing intention. What would it look like? What color would it be? How many petals would it have? What would it smell like? Who would be attracted to it? Now, take out your paper and colored pencils and crayons and create your flower. When you are down, merge your new flower with your heart and fill it with golden light allowing the golden light to fill every cell in your body.

I am at with all that is. As I breathe in, the life force energy flows throughout my body.

In this moment I am at one, I am healed.

Kirsty Green

Look for little shifts and changes that show you are heading in the right direction.

Look over your garden and see what tending is needed to nurture the beautiful blooms of today and to produce those in the future.

Put into Action - Creating Your Healing Mission and Vision Statement

Now, with these carefully thought through and answered questions, you can craft your personal healing vision and mission statement.

A vision statement is a vivid description of a desired outcome that inspires, energizes, motivates, and stimulates you to create a mental picture of your dream or desire. Write a short statement (1-3 sentences) describing your vision.

Here are some guidelines for writing powerful personal vision or life statements.

  • Describe the best possible outcome.

  • Use present tense.

  • Use all your senses.

  • Describe how it will feel when you accomplish or realize it.

  • Pay attention to how your body responds to your vision statement.

  • Create a personal "power phrase" or mantra.

A personal mission statement becomes the DNA for every other decision we make.

Stephen Covey

A personal Mission Statement is a positively crafted statement that provides clarity and gives you a sense of purpose. It defines who you are and how you will live. It guides and directs your day-to-day actions and decisions. It inspires and empowers your Soul.

Here are some guidelines for writing powerful personal mission statements.

  • Keep it to 3 to 5 sentences long.

  • Keep it consistent with your personal vision statement.

  • Keep it positive and describe what you want rather than what you don't want.

  • Describe specific actions, behaviors, habits and qualities that describe how you will become a clearer or more vital expression of your Soul's song...

  • Describe how it will feel when you accomplish or realize it. Make it emotional, passionate and compelling.

  • Pay attention to how your body responds to your Mission Statement.

We are often sad and suffer a lot when things change, but change and impermanence have a positive side. Thanks to impermanence, everything is possible. Life itself is possible. If a grain of corn is not impermanent, it can never be transformed into a stalk of corn. If the stalk were not impermanent, it could never provide us with the ear of corn we eat. If your daughter is not impermanent, she cannot grow up to become a woman. Then your grandchildren would never manifest.
Thich Nhat Hanh

Taking the Lesson Further

In ancient times, movement and dance were used for prayer and healing. You can use movement and dance to connect with a flower ally. There is no right or wrong way to do this journey. Simply become your flower and imagine yourself going through its growing cycle.

Closing Thoughts: Showing Gratitude - The Despacho Gratitude Ceremony

A Despacho, a “dispatch”, is a traditional Peruvian ceremony of thanksgiving wherein a beautiful prayer bundle is assembled an offering to nature, the Earth, the Apus (mountain) the stars, and the waters, which restores and honors our connections with the elements, helping spirits, and sacred places.

The Despacho is a gift to spirit...Let the ceremony be simple. You say thank you. You say thank you for as much as you can think of. And then you keep saying thank you until you feel like you could say thank you for hours.

Rochelle Schiek, QOYA

Take some time to sit with your Flower Guide and healing team (transformation ally, angels, etc.) and create a Despacho ceremony to express your gratitude for its wisdom and healing power.

Learn how to create a Despacho Gratitude Ceremony with Rochelle Schiek in this short video, watch here

Here is a summary of the instructions:

  1. After collecting your items (see below for a list of possible items and their meaning), including a large piece of white or colored paper for “wrapping” your offering and gifting it to the Universe.

  2. Fold the paper into thirds one way and then thirds the other way so that there are 9 squares.

  3. Working within the center square, begin to layer the burnable objects that have been informed with your breath, so the energetic essence of your prayers is within each one.

  4. Create your prayer bundle in a way that is meaningful to you.

  5. Once you have filled the despacho with your prayers and shared the vision or dream for yourself and the collective, fold the bundle into the shape of a gift, as an offering to the earth, to spirit, to the divine. It’s not about “what” ingredients, it’s about the quality of your attention and intention to come into harmony and right relationship by saying thank you.

Here are some items that you might choose to use:

  • Rice – fertility and abundance, to bring your prayers into fruition

  • Lentils – vibrant health

  • Nuts– sustenance

  • Beans – for protection, abundance, power places, and the springs that nourish us

  • Corn – sustenance: a gift back to the earth for what we have been given

  • Raisins and dried fruit – spirits of our ancestors

  • Animal Crackers – for animal spirits who hold certain pure energies on the planet for us

  • Black licorice – protection and safety

  • Loose sage or other incense – to feed the elements of the earth

  • Gummy or candy frogs – messengers, envoys to carry our prayers; cycle of waters

  • “Play” money, one piece – ensure successfulness of the despacho

  • Cotton balls unraveled – clouds; represents aware time and dream time

  • Confetti Stars – connection to the stars

  • Colorful candy or sprinkles – to celebrate all life

  • Flower petals – for healing

  • And then add a few pinches of “Sweetness” – Candies, Chocolate, Candy hearts, sweet gum drops, candy corn etc

Remember, energy follows intention and if look for things you are grateful for, you will surely find them. Create more beauty in the world by appreciating the beauty that is already here.

Final Words

Keep in mind, that healing, as well as learning, is a spiral. Continue to seek the wisdom of you your Flower Guide. Remember Julia Graves insight on a imaginative, holistic way understanding that the your Flower Guide can teach us what

  • we do not understand, or

  • we do not know how to do by showing us the way to find our natural balance, or

  • by inspiring us to change our way of functioning to include ways in which we did not function before.

One of our greatest allies: plants nourish us, shelter us, warm us and purify our air. They dazzle our eyes with their color and form and bring delicious scents to the nose. So in this moment let us pay homage to the usefulness and wisdom of plants. Let us allow ourselves to be caressed by the softness of petals and the fluttering of leaves. May the kindness and support of plants show us how to become firmly rooted yet reach high, and to not be broken down by our Age? Let us unite Heaven and Earth within us with the passing of the years.
